Brandt Snedeker has set his sights on securing a maiden major title during 2017 after claiming his first ever European Tour success at the Fiji International on Sunday.
The 35-year-old came into the event at Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course on the back of helping the United States claim glory in the Ryder Cup, and he continued his good form in Fiji, securing a comfortable nine-shot triumph.
The world number 23 began his final round three strokes clear of the field, but as his rivals faltered, the American held his nerve, carding five birdies and just one bogey, as he finished the tournament on 16-under-par to claim his first European Tour title.
The Tennessee native, who has also won eight times on the PGA Tour during his career, was delighted to secure his latest victory, and he has now set his sights on claiming a first major triumph in the future.
“This is going to help me do that (win a major), handling a big lead the way I did, to know I can handle whatever a golf course throws at me against the best players in the world and come out on top,” Snedeker said. “The main focus is to get ready to go and be excited about it.”
Snedeker has achieved eight top-ten finishes in major championships during his career, with his best showings coming at the 2008 Masters and the 2012 Open Championship, as he finished in a tie for third position on both occasions.
The 2017 Masters Tournament is due to get underway at Augusta National Golf Club on April 6 and Snedeker is available at 51.00 to break his major duck at that event.
