James Collins believes Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Middlesbrough is a turning point for West Ham United and feels the players are now in the right frame of mind to push on.

There was huge optimism for West Ham fans ahead of the Premier League season, having left the Boleyn Ground to move to the London Stadium.

However, several disappointing results have dampened the spirits and the club are languishing down in the relegation zone, taking just four points from a possible 21.

The Hammers ended a run of fourth straight league defeats on Saturday as they came from behind to record a 1-1 draw against newly-promoted Middlesbrough.

Cristhian Stuani opened the scoring for the visitors before France international Dimitri Payet scored a brilliant solo goal, dancing past several players before coolly sliding home, to claim a share of the spoils.

A draw may not have been the result manager Slaven Bilic was after but Collins, who has made six appearances this term, believes the players can build from this.

He told BBC Sport: “It stops the rot and is a step in the right direction. We needed that point.”

West Ham are back in league action on October 15 when they travel to Selhurst Park for the late kick-off on that Saturday to take on Crystal Palace.

The Eagles, who grabbed a good point last time out when drawing 1-1 with Everton, are 2.15 favourites to win the contest, a draw is priced at 3.30 whilst the visitors are 3.25 to pick up just their second win of the season.

Relegation still remains a firm possibility for the Hammers if their form doesn’t start improving quickly and the club are 5.00 to suffer the drop down to the Championship.
