Arsenal are thought to have set their sights on Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko if they fail with their attempts to land Luis Suarez from Liverpool.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign a new striker but after already missing out on Gonzalo Higuain, who joined Napoli from Real Madrid and Stevan Jovetic, who signed for Manchester City from Fiorentina, it has turned out to be a frustrating summer for the Frenchman.

Liverpool remain steadfast that they are not going to sell Suarez and with time fast running out before the transfer window closes on September 2, Wenger is weighing up alternatives, with Dzeko  said to be one of them.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini has already revealed that the Bosnian forward is a big part of his plans this coming season despite the fact he has recently brought fellow hitmen Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo to the Etihad Stadium.

Therefore the Chilean tactician is likely to give Wenger a short shrift if he makes a move to try and lure Dzeko to the Emirates Stadium in the next fortnight.

Wenger is also reportedly interested in Swansea striker Michu, and although any move would be instantly rebuffed by their boss Michael Laudrup, the Spaniard may turn out to be the better option.

Given the opportunity to play Champions League football next season Michu would certainly be tempted by a move to the Gunners and a big offer from Wenger could turn out to be enough to prise him away from the Liberty Stadium.
