Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard says success is just around the corner for the Reds as Brendan Rodgers builds a squad capable of winning silverware.

The Merseyside giants have not won the League title since 1990 and have fallen behind the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea in recent seasons.

However, Gerrard is feeling confident ahead of the new season and believes the signings that Rodgers is bringing to Anfield will help move the club in the right direction.

Rodgers is slowly but surely starting to put his own stamp on the squad and Gerrard says with a couple more quality signings, Liverpool will again be challenging for honours.

“Is success around the corner? I hope so,” the midfielder said.

“We have bought well in the off-season and if we can get another two players in key areas then we have a good chance.

“We are moving in the right direction. We are playing nice football and hopefully the owners continue to back him and he is able to add to the squad to make it stronger so we can compete for trophies.”

Keeping star striker Luis Suarez will also be crucial to Liverpool’s chances of success this season and reports claim a second bid from Arsenal has been turned down.

The Gunners look to have offered £40million for Suarez, who is also attracting interest from Real Madrid, but the Reds are determined to keep hold and have knocked it back.
