New Everton arrival Gerard Deulofeu believes his previous experience at the club will make settling in much easier and allow him to make a quick start this season.

The Spain international spent a year on loan at Goodison Park for the 2013/14 campaign before heading back to Barcelona at the end of the deal.

Reports were suggesting the winger would make a permanent move that summer but the Catalans instead decided to send the 21-year-old to Sevilla for the season.

Everton endured a tricky time in the Premier League last time out and the extra fixtures added to the schedule due to their Europa League commitments highlighted the lack of depth in the squad.

Manager Roberto Martinez has already added former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley to the ranks, following his release by the Red Devils, and Deulofeu as the Spaniard targets more new arrivals.

The Toffees will not be featuring in Europe this season but this could be a blessing in disguise as they can concentrate fully on their Premier League campaign.

Deulofeu could prove to be an integral part of the first-team and the winger is looking forward to joining up with some familiar faces.

“I always followed Everton last season. If the team were playing on television then I would watch the game, if not I would check the results. I always wanted to see how they were doing,” he said.

“Of course knowing the players will help me to adapt a great deal. You don’t have to start from the beginning again, you don’t have to start from zero,” Deulofeu added.

“I’ve been getting messages from some of the players like Seamus [Coleman] and I speak to Joel [Robles] as well. That will all help me to adapt again and there is a really good atmosphere in the changing room – the guys are great.”

Everton are favourites at 1.70 to defeat newly-promoted Watford on the opening day of the season while the Hornets are a 5.00 shot to start with a win.
