Leicester City legend Muzzy Izzet believes former team-mate Neil Lennon should be appointed the new manager at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes recently sacked Nigel Pearson after four years in charge despite the former Newcastle United caretaker boss leading the club to Premier League safety last season.

Leicester were languishing at the bottom of the table and looked destined for the drop but a remarkable up-turn in results in the last nine games helped the team to 14th position.

City won seven, drew one and suffered defeat on just the one occasion to move away from the bottom three but this was not enough to keep Pearson at the helm.

Reports have suggested his sacking was down to an issue involving his son, James, who had his contract torn up because of an incident whilst on a pre-season trip abroad.

The search is still on for a replacement manager and Lennon, who played for the club from 1996 to 2000, is being tipped to take the job by former team-mate Izzet.

“Big names being touted about for the LCFC job. Why? Give it to Lennon you know he’ll put his all into the club just like he did as a player,” he wrote on Twitter. “Don’t be fooled into thinking these foreign managers in their suits are the answer.”

Lennon is the current boss of Bolton Wanderers and the 44-year-old was only appointed last summer, which means City will have to pay a big chunk of compensation to secure a deal.

Former Netherlands coach Guus Hiddink has also been linked with the job at the King Power Stadium while ex-West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is another candidate.

Whoever takes charge will start the season with a home clash against Sunderland and the hosts are 1.95 to pick up three points while the Black Cats are outsiders at 4.00.
