Gary Bowyer has warned off any potential suitors for Blackburn Rovers midfielder Ben Marshall.

The versatile 24-year-old was something of a utility player at Ewood Park last season, Bowyer opting to deploy him at full back, central midfield and on the wing during the Championship campaign.

The likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton are rumoured to be interested in Marshall but Bowyer scoffed at the suggestion a bid of £1.5m would be enough to prize the player away from Ewood Park.

“The figures that have been mentioned wouldn’t buy his right foot – and he’s got two outstanding feet and a fantastic head,” the Rovers boss told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

Fellow midfielder Tom Cairney has already departed Rovers for Fulham this summer and Bowyer sees Marshall as an ideal replacement.

“Ben can do the things that Tom brought to the team and he is also has that adaptability and flexibility, which is vital for us,” he added.

“He’s come back in the best shape I’ve seen him since he’s been at the club and he’s really focused.”

Bowyer is continuing his preparations for the new Championship season, with his side kicking off with a home tie against Wolves on Saturday August 8.

They began with a 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley before spending a week at a training camp in Portugal and having returned to England, they now travel to Spotland for a friendly against Rochdale.

Blackburn are 26.00 to win the Championship next season while they are 8.00 earn promotion to the Premier League.
