Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths is hoping his side can build on their 4-1 pre-season win over Eibar when they face FC Stjarnan in their Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.

The Hoops take a 2-0 lead into the second leg in Iceland but the Scotland international says they were not at their best in the first leg in Glasgow.

Griffiths fired a second half hat-trick against La Liga side Eibar in Saturday’s win and he feels Celtic must up their performance to ensure there are no setbacks in Iceland.

“It was a good test for us going into Wednesday night,” said the striker. “We got the win last Wednesday but I don’t think we played as well as we could have and we showed against Eibar what we’re all about.”

Griffiths is hoping his goalscoring exploits in Spain will have been enough to earn a starting place for the game against Stjarnan.

With two more rounds of qualifying to negotiate before Celtic can take their place in the lucrative group stages, Griffiths is focused on completing the task.

“I got 90 minutes so I’m feeling sharp but it’s a different kettle of fish on Wednesday night with the Champions League.
Whatever team the manager goes with we need to put in the performance, get the win and make sure we get into the next round,” he added.

Griffiths had a penalty saved in the first leg against Stjarnan at Celtic Park but having slotted home from 12-yards against Eibar at Samsung Stadium he says he has forgotten that disappointment.

Celtic are 1.40 to beat Stjarnan on Wednesday, with the Icelandic champions 7.40 and the draw 3.80.
