Roberto Martinez has called on his Everton players not to feel sorry for themselves following the defeat to Tottenham and wants them to bounce back against Crystal Palace.
Everton’s hopes of finishing in the top four have suffered a couple of blows in recent weeks following the derby defeat to Liverpool, while Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Tottenham was also a setback.
The loss was particularly hard to take for Martinez as Everton dominated the first half and should have been leading at the break, only to be undone by a great goal from Emmanuel Adebayor in the second half.
The good news for Everton is that they have an immediate chance to bounce back when they entertain Crystal Palace at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
It will not be easy against a Palace side, who are pulling away from trouble and put in another fine performance when beating West Brom 3-1 at the weekend, but Martinez is confident they can get back on track.
“It is important we focus now on Crystal Palace and we will try to get rid of the frustration in that performance,” he said.
“There are many games left and there will be many twists and turns.
What we can’t do is get too disappointed by the scoreline.
“Obviously we want to win games but our performance merited a good scoreline. When you do that it is a matter of keeping playing good football and the points will come.”
Everton are 1.47 favourites to win the game, while the Eagles are 7.25 to pull off an upset.
