Manager Ronald Koeman is pleased with how Everton have started the Premier League season but admits there are still areas the team need to work on.

Former Southampton boss Koeman took charge of the Toffees this summer following the sacking of Roberto Martinez and things have been going well at Goodison Park so far.

The Merseyside-based outfit have notched up four victories, two draws and just one defeat from their first seven league matches and they currently sit fifth in the table.

Only four points separate Everton from leaders Manchester City and there is real optimism a Champions League place can be achieved in this campaign.

The summer additions have also settled into the squad very nicely with Yannick Bolasie, Ashley Williams and Idrissa Gueye all key first team members.

Koeman’s style of football has been welcomed by the faithful fans and there are many hoping the high standard of football can be kept up for the rest of the season.

The Dutch tactician is extremely happy with how events have unfolded since taking charge but he is still targeting more progression with every outing.

He said: “Of course we need to improve, we need to get better but I think the start of the season has been very positive.”

Everton return to league action after the international break on October 15 when they travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on former champions City.

Pep Guardiola’s men, who lost 2-0 to Tottenham on Sunday, are 1.44 favourites, a draw is priced at 4.50 while the visitors are the 6.00 outsiders.

Everton’s last victory in the Premier League against the Citizens was back in 2013, Leon Osman and Nikica Jelavic scoring on the day.
