Second half goals from Callum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah saw Arsenal progress to the next round of the EFL at the expense of Leeds United.

Mikel Arteta made multiple changes to the side that beat Aston Villa on Friday in the Premier League, choosing to rest Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Sambi Lokonga, Alex Lacazette and Bukayo Saka.

This gave chances to the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah upfront against a lacklustre Leeds United team that are just above the drop zone in the Premier League and out of form.

The first half saw both teams on stalemate until Arsenal moved into the lead through defender Callum Chambers in the 55th minute of the game.

English youngster Eddie Nketiah then doubled the advantage ten minutes later as the Gunners got their seventh win in nine games in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Chelsea needed the luck of the penalties to move into the next round after a 1-1 draw with Southampton inside 90 minutes.

Kai Havertz had given the blues the lead just before half-time but Che Adams equalised immediately after the break for the Saints.

Former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott and William Smallbone missed their penalties as Chelsea won 4-3 on Penalties.

It was similar scenario at Queens Park Rangers as Sunderland beat Rangers 3-1 on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes.

On Wednesday, West Ham will host Manchester city at the London stadium. The Hammers are chasing UEFA Champions League football next season.

Leicester City will play Brighton Hove and Albion. Both sides had contrasting fortunes at the weekend with the Foxes beating Brentford while Brighton lost 4-1 to Manchester City.

At the Turf Moor, Burnley will welcome Tottenham, while Preston will host in-form Liverpool and Stoke city hosts Premier League side Brentford.
