Former Hull City boss Steve Bruce insists he cannot wait to get started after being appointed as Aston Villa’s new manager.

The former Birmingham City coach was revealed as Villa’s new boss on Monday night, following Roberto Di Matteo’s sacking earlier this month.

Di Matteo left Villa after winning just one match and the club have already drawn seven Championship games so far this season.

Villa’s poor start leaves them in 19th in the Premier League, just two points above the relegation zone. The club have now turned to Bruce, who has been without a job since he left Hull City earlier this summer.

He has won promotion to the Premier League on four occasions in the past and he was interviewed for he England job earlier this year.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Villa Park, Bruce admits he is looking forward to a fresh start at the club.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity. It is one of the big clubs of this country. To be given the opportunity to manage it is terrific,” he told the club’s official website.

“I relish the challenge of trying to take the club where it wants to go and needs to be – and try to turn around the misfortune we seem to have had over the past few years.

“I am absolutely delighted to have been given the chance. I hope I can do my stuff.”

Villa are 1.95 favourites to win on Saturday, with the draw priced at 3.50, while Wolves can be priced at odds of 4.00 with Dafabet.
