Frank de Boer’s agent says the Ajax coach has been made aware of Tottenham Hotspur’s interest but the Dutchman remains focused on his current job in Amsterdam.

Spurs have targeted de Boer, 43, as they search for a new manager after sacking Andre Villas-Boas on Monday.

The Dutchman’s credentials make him an obvious candidate for Tottenham as they look for a young, forward thinking coach in the mould of Villas-Boas, but with a commitment to attacking principles.

De Boer was an instant hit in Amsterdam after agreeing to coach the club he graced for eleven years as a player and guided Ajax to the Dutch championship in his first season in charge – ending their seven-year title drought.

The former Ajax youth coach and Dutch assistant coach has now overseen three consecutive Eredivisie titles and some famous European victories, including a memorable away win over AC Milan in his first match in charge and home wins over Manchester City and Barcelona.

He has been installed as the favourite to replace Villas-Boas, although his agent said that there has not been an official approach to Ajax.

Guido Albers told Voetbal International: “Through several channels it became clear to me that Spurs would have an interest. But the club did not came to Ajax. So from our point of view there’s not much to say about it. Frank isn’t even thinking about it. He’s fully focussing on Ajax.”
