Antonio Conte demands Chelsea response

Antonio Conte has challenged his Chelsea players to bounce back from their dismal display in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Arsenal.

Following a bright start to the campaign, the Blues, who are 21.00 to win the Premier League, now appear to be experiencing some teething problems under the Italian, collecting just a single point from their last three outings.

They have clearly been affected by the ankle injury to captain John Terry, with his usual partner Gary Cahill being at fault for Arsenal’s opening goal on Saturday.

While a number of sources have reported that the coach is already planning wholesale changes in January, the man himself has called for calm and has refused to place blame on individuals.

No European football means Chelsea now have a week to reflect ahead of Saturday’s trip to Hull, a game they are 1.44 to win, with the draw 4.20 and the Tigers 6.50.

Rather than panic, Conte believes his team must now work hard on the training ground to prove they have learned from their poor showing at the weekend and use the experience to help them recover in their quest to challenge for the Premier League title.

He said: “It is important to take this experience as an opportunity to understand we want to come back very quickly. To fight for something important in England, it is important to improve.

“We must continue to think in the same way, always. We understood – me first then the players – that this league is very tough.

We must improve a lot of if we want to stay up and not in the middle of the table.”
