Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Brazilian playmaker Willian, who has penned a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
The fee that Chelsea have paid to Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala has not been disclosed but it is thought to be in the region of £32million.
Willian looked to be heading to Tottenham after he underwent a medical at White Hart Lane but Jose Mourinho nipped in at the death to take the player to Stamford Bridge.
“I’m very happy to be here, it’s been a dream of mine to come and play here,” he told the club’s website.
“Chelsea are one of the best clubs in the world, and now I’m going to play for one of the best managers (Jose Mourinho) in the world, so I’m very happy and looking forward to it.”
This Friday’s clash against Bayern Munich in the European Super Cup is likely to come too soon for Willian but he should be in contention for the game against Everton on September 14.
Meanwhile, the capture of Willian is unlikely to be the last bit of business that Mourinho does ahead of the transfer window.
Wayne Rooney and Samuel Eto’o are still possible signings while the Blues are also reported to be in advanced talks with Porto over a proposed deal for African winger Christian Atsu.
There could also be movement the other way with Arsenal keen on Juan Mata, while Liverpool want Victor Moses.
