Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has set his sights on winning the Champions league next season, although he admits success in Europe is always difficult to achieve.

The Blues won the Premier League title in comfortable fashion this season, finishing eight points clear of nearest rivals Manchester City to claim their first league crown since 2010.

It is the third time the west Londoners have finished the season as champions under the stewardship of their Portuguese boss, but the 52-year-old was not at the helm when they won their only Champions League title to date in 2012.

Chelsea were knocked out of this season’s Champions League in the first knockout round by Paris Saint-Germain on the away-goals rule.

The ‘Special One’ has tasted European glory with both Porto and Inter Milan in 2004 and 2010 respectively and is now targeting similar success with the Blues, although he admits it is always difficult to seal glory in Europe’s premier club competition.

He said: “It’s always difficult to win the Champions League, which is why all the big guys don’t do it seven, eight times in their careers.”

Mourinho is happy with the progress his side has made since he returned to Stamford Bridge in 2013 and he is aiming to continue the progression going into the new campaign.

He continued: “This season we were better than last season and next season we hope to be better than this season. Hopefully we get our chance.”

The Stamford Bridge club are the 2.38 favourites to defend their Premier League crown and have already began their rebuilding process after allowing veteran striker Didier Drogba to leave the club on a free transfer.
