UEFA Champions League group stage is almost half way through, with the third round played this week. There have not been shocking surprises yet, but the matches have featured a lot of entertainment and fantastic performances, especially by individual players. Last night was an evening to remember to at least two prolific strikes, as Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and PSG’s Kylian Mbappe scored hat-tricks to lead their teams to dominating victories.

Manchester City took on Italian Atalanta at Eihad Stadium. City had two wins under their belt and no goals conceded, so they were clear favorites to take the win. Atalanta didn’t sell their skin lightly though. The visitors took 0-1 lead in the 28th minute from a penalty and caused some concern for the Manchester City faithful. The lead was short-lived though, with Sergio Agüero tying it up some eight minutes later and then taking City ahead from a penalty on 38th minute. The second half was a pure Raheem Sterling show as the City forward banged in three goals in 11 minutes, which must be a record-breaking effort. The goals took Sterling 2nd in the Champions League scoring race with total tally of four, one behind Bayern München’s Robert Lewandowski.

The other hat-trick hero comes from France and is called Kylian Mbappe. Not much of surprise there, although the manner of his trick was something else. PSG entered the game against Belgian side Club Brugge as heavy favorites, after winning their first two fixtures with clean sheets. Mauro Icardi took the visitors ahead early on the 7th minute, but PSG struggled somewhat and Brugge seemed to push back hard. On the second half, PSG manager Thomas Tuchel had seen enough and substituted Maxim Choupo-Moting to Mbappe – and it definitely worked. Mbappe scored his first to take PSG 0-2 up only after having spent nine minutes on the field and assisted Icardi’s second of the night only two minutes later. The show went on in the late minutes of the game, when Mbappe finished off Angel di Maria’s assists twice in four minutes. His hat-trick from the bench was reportedly the fastes in UCL, as he took all of 22 minutes to sink Club Brugge at their home.

UEFA Champions League group stage continues tonight and we’re likely to have another bunch of heroes. Who would you pick to score the next hat-trick?
