Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon believes his side are capable of beating Barcelona in their next Champions League match, as long as they replicate the performance they produced during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Hoops are currently bottom of Group C after picking up just two points from their opening four matches, and they must win their final two group games to stand any chance of progressing through to the knockout stages.

Brendan Rodgers’ men are next in European action when they play host to Barca at Celtic Park on November 23, and they will head into that match as huge underdogs following their 7-0 defeat to the Catalans giants at the Camp Nou on Matchday One.

Celtic did beat Barcelona 2-1 when they met in the Champions League four years ago, and Scotland international Gordon is convinced his side can gain another positive result in the fixture, particularly if they replicate the performance they produced against Gladbach.

The 33-year-old said: “We will concentrate on trying to get the performance up to those levels and if we continue to improve at this level, we still have a chance.

It is possible. Manchester City won their home tie (against Barcelona) so we have a chance. “We have performed at the top of our abilities a couple of times and came away with two draws. If we can do that again we will give ourselves a chance to come away with all three points.”

Celtic have not made it through to the knockout stages of Europe’s premier club competition since the 2012-13 campaign, while Barca have made it to at least the quarter-finals of the tournament in each of the last nine seasons.
