According to reports, Celtic are set to renew their interest in Bolton Wanderers Starlet Ronan Darcy but may have to face several suitors as competitors for the player.

Reports have it that Celtic want to bring the 18- year old to Celtic Park in the summer, but he chose to stay back with the league one club after he has been guaranteed first-team opportunities.

Celtic has the determination that they are not going to give up in the pursuit of the young Englishman and are monitoring his situation. Furthermore, Celtic will have the advantage of not having to pay a compensation fee to sign him because of boundary rules; this increases their interest, likewise their rivals Rangers.

Celtic rivals Rangers are also in the mix to snap up the starlet as they continue their search for the best young players in England’s top three divisions. Celtic was the first to show interest as they were impressed by Darcy’s performances in the U-18s FA Youth Cup last season before he was handed his first-team debut on the final matchday of last season.

This could be the right time for Celtic to take Darcy away from England back to top tier football in Scotland, putting into consideration the difficult time he is having at a newly rejuvenated Bolton side this season.

Darcy scored his first senior goal when Bolton lost to Rochdale 5-2, which saw them crash out of the league cup mid- August, however, he has struggled to nail down a start in recent weeks. Bolton signed nine players towards the end of last month on transfer deadline day. So, he [Darcy] may find first-team opportunities hard to come by, and that’s the reason Celtic needs to assure him.

Ronan Darcy has played a total of 376 minutes in League One, and this has given him the experience of playing at the senior level and the opportunity to play for Celtic. And this could be the right time for him.
