Celtic have not given up hope of signing Carlton Cole despite the striker picking up an injury while training with the Hoops.

The former West Ham United and Chelsea star is out of contract and looking for a new club, with Celtic boss Ronny Deila in the box seat to do a deal.

It looked as though the 31-year-old was closing on a move after he impressed during his first week of training, only for injury to strike when he returned a week later.

Cole picked up a calf injury in training, putting the whole deal in jeopardy, but it has now been revealed the striker has remained in Glasgow and the move is still on.

Much will depend on how quickly Cole can recover and, if he can get back into training sooner rather than later, a switch to Parkhead could still go through.

Deila is willing to give him another chance to build up his fitness and prove himself as he looks to add another striker to his ranks.

The Norwegian boss has admitted that Cole is different to anything he has got and would like to get him on board at least for the rest of the campaign.

Deila is also tracking Manchester United youngster James Wilson with a view to wrapping up a loan deal, but nothing can happen on that front until January at the earliest.

Celtic are priced at 1.09 to win the Scottish Premier League, with their rivals for the title, Aberdeen, at 9.00.
