Everton youngster Callum Connolly says last season helped develop his skills massively and the midfielder is hoping for even better ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.
The 17-year-old is one the most highly-rated prospects coming through the ranks at Goodison Park and he could become yet another star created from the ‘School of Science’.
Vice-captain Leon Osman and defender Tony Hibbert both started as youth players with Everton and the duo have gone on to become integral members of the first team over numerous seasons.
More recently the likes of 21-year-old Tyias Browning and left-back Luke Garbutt have been promoted to the senior side, with the latter featuring for England during their unsuccessful Under-21 European Championship campaign this summer.
England Under-18 international Connolly is the next youngster hoping to impress manager Robert Martinez and he is aiming for another successful campaign after gaining invaluable experience last term.
“Last season was massive for me, both internationally and at my club. I’ve gained a lot of experience, especially with England, and I’ve been in every single squad,” he said.
“I played against some of the best players in Europe, going up against the likes of Holland, Italy and Russia and I’ve enjoyed every moment – I just hope there is more to come next year.”
Connolly will have to dislodge the likes of Osman, Ross Barkley, James McCarthy and Gareth Barry in midfield but opportunities could present themselves.
Everton start their Premier League season with a home clash against newly-promoted Watford and the hosts are favourites at 1.70 while the visitors are priced at 5.00.
