Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre says Christian Pulisic faces a real battle to reclaim a starting spot.

Pulisic has been a regular in Europe, starting BVB’s last three Champions League games, but domestically he finds himself behind Jadon Sancho and Jacob Bruun Larsen in the pecking order.

Borussia Dortmund are 34.00 to win the Champions League outright and German rivals Bayern Munich can be backed at 10.00.

The 20-year-old USA international was a key man for Dortmund last season – he started 27 Bundesliga games – but he hasn’t made the first XI in the German top flight since September.

Favre was pleased with the youngster’s performance in BVB’s 0-0 Champions League draw with Club Brugge on Wednesday as they qualified for the last 16 with a game to spare, but suggested Pulisic may have to settle for a place on the bench when they host Freiburg on Saturday.

“There’s a lot of competition for [Pulisic] on the wings,” he told reporters.

“We have a lot of great wingers. It was tough today because Brugge played in a very compact 4-4-2 system – it’s never easy to find a gap.

“We have to combine and move quicker. But [Christian] played well today, managing to create three or four situations for us today and managed to get at the end of a promising chance himself.”

Dortmund are 1.30 to beat Freiburg at the Westfalenstadion on Saturday, the draw is 5.50 and the visitors can be backed at 10.00.
