Blackburn winger Craig Conway believes scoring double-figures this season could prove a huge help to his side’s chances of success.
Since making the move from Cardiff in 2014, the Scot has led the Rovers’ assists charts with 23 in 62 outings for the Ewood Park outfit.
However, he has been less prolific when it comes to finishing chances, netting just four times in each of his two campaigns in Lancashire.
Conway’s relatively poor return of four goals in each of his two seasons at Blackburn has prompted boss Gary Bowyer to ask him to improve his tally, after strikers Rudy Gestede and Jordan Rhodes were responsible for 41 of the club’s strikes last term.
Ben Marshall was the only midfielder to get close to double figures with seven and the 30-year-old admits he now wants to add an extra string to his bow by proving he can be just as good at finishing chances as he is at making them.
“Assists have not really been a problem but I’ve not scored as many goals as I would have liked,” Conway is quoted as saying by the Lancashire Telegraph. “I added a few towards the end of the season but I should definitely be getting up and close to 10 goals.
“That’s a lot of goals for a midfielder but that’s what I should be aiming for. Ben Marshall got close with seven last season and, given there’s so many games, hopefully I can add more goals for the team.”
Blackburn are currently one of the 26.00 outsiders to top the Championship standings, while they are a much shorter 8.50 to earn promotion.
