Slaven Bilic believes West Ham could be in for a big season if they continue their impressive work in the transfer market.

The popular Croatian recently returned to the club where he spent 18 months as a player and along with the board, has set about ensuring the team is as strong as possible for when it moves into the Olympic Stadium next summer.

Goalkeeper Darren Randolph and midfielders Pedro Obiang and Dimitri Payet have already arrived at Upton Park, while a move for Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna is also thought to be in the offing.

Bilic watched from the stands last week as a team made up mainly of youth players beat Andorran side FC Lusitans 3-0 in the Europa League qualifiers. It means the Hammers are understandably the 1.03 favourites heading into Thursday’s second leg, with the draw 17.00 and their opponents at 41.00.

However, the boss has his eyes on bigger targets this season and will be hoping for a similar start to last term when the East Londoners established themselves as early top four contenders.

West Ham’s form petered out under Sam Allardyce but Bilic is confident that with a few more new faces they can maintain their momentum throughout the campaign.

“Our plan is to bring in more players,” he told the club’s official website. “We are trying to bring in players who we believe can lift us to another stage and make us better.

“We are expecting big things with West Ham. We are not big headed and will take it step by step but the early signs are very promising.”
