Bayern Munich captain and 2014 World Cup winner Philipp Lahm has admitted he may call time on his career at the end of the season.

Lahm, who retired from Germany duty two years ago, is under contract until the summer of 2018 but he has revealed he may not see out his deal at the Allianz Arena.

“I wouldn’t rule anything out,” Lahm told Sport Bild. “I said nine months ago already that this situation could arise and nothing has changed in how I see this.”

Lahm, who turns 33 on Friday, has spent the entirety of his career with Bayern aside from a loan stint at Stuttgart.

The full-back, who has won eight Bundesliga titles, the Champions League and seven DFB-Pokal trophies during his time with the Bavarian giants, says he wants to bow out at the top of his game.

“I want to be able to measure myself at the very highest level and be able to recognise myself when the right time is to end my career,” added Lahm.

“I certainly won’t be determining my future only based on the number of titles we have won at the end of the season, but I will listen to my body and then decide how things go on.” Bayern are 4.33 to win the Champions League this season.

The German giants are 1.08 to win the Bundesliga but, at present, they are involved in a real battle for the top domestic prize as 17.00 hopefuls RB Leipzig are level on points with Bayern after 10 games although Lahm’s side lead the way on goal difference.
