Barcelona are sweating over the fitness of key midfielder Sergio Busquets ahead of their Champions League showdown with Manchester City next week.
The Catalan giants lead 2-1 from the first leg of their last 16 clash which was played at the Etihad Stadium last week, but Busquets could miss the return encounter at the Nou Camp.
The Spain international star picked up an ankle injury during Wednesday night’s Copa del Rey match against Villarreal and is now facing a spell on the sidelines.
Barca officials have revealed that he will definitely miss their game against Rayo Vallecano in the league this weekend and is also a big doubt for their clash with Eibar on March 14.
A statement from Barcelona read: “Tests done on Thursday morning confirmed that Busquets has a right ankle syndesmosis injury.
“The player is ruled out for Sunday’s league match with Rayo Vallecano at the Camp Nou. His availability beyond that will be carefully monitored.”
Barca coach Luis Enrique will be keeping his fingers crossed that Busquets will make the City game on March 18, although he could have a decision to reach as they also face fierce rivals Real Madrid on March 22.
The 26-year-old midfielder has just penned a new deal to keep him at the Nou Camp until June 2019 and Enrique will want him back fit as soon as possible.
Barca are 1.06 to beat Rayo Vallecano this weekend, while the visitors are a huge price at 29.40 to pull off a shock win. The draw is 10.80.
