Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez has heaped praise on team mate Neymar following the Brazilian’s recent run of good form.

The forward has scored four goals in his last two matches, with two goals apiece coming in last weekend’s 6-0 La Liga demolition at Elche and in their 3-2 success at Atletico in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.

The two braces took the 22-year-old to 21 goals in all competitions for Barca this campaign, with experienced midfielder Xavi full of praise for the talented front-man.

He said: “Neymar’s an extraordinary player. He’s making the difference, he’s very skilful, dribbles and will attract kicks. He’s happy, so we must accept that to be the case.”

The former Spanish international believes Neymar will also challenge to be the best player in the world over the next few years, if indeed the Brazilian isn’t already considered to be in that elite bracket of players.

He continued: “That’s in progress [about Neymar becoming the world’s best]. He’s already making a difference at Barcelona and is an amazing player. It depends on himself but he’ll be among the best players in the world one day if he isn’t already.”

Neymar’s superb form has helped the Catalan giants win their last seven in a row in all competitions, with Luis Enrique’s side unbeaten since surprisingly losing to Real Sociedad in their opening match of 2015.

Barca are currently second in the La Liga table and face a home match with Villarreal on Sunday. The Catalan club are overwhelming favourites at 1.20 to secure victory with the visitors available at 12.44. The draw is at 6.40.
