Liverpool face a fight to keep hold of Daniel Agger after his representatives suggested he would be open to a move to Barcelona.

The Catalan giants are already said to have offered in the region of £15m for the Denmark international but Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is desperately keen for his vice-captain to stay and will do all he can to keep him at Anfield.

Agger’s representatives have claimed that Barcelona will push for the defender if they fail in their efforts to land first choice David Luiz from Chelsea.

Luiz could cost the Spanish champions upwards of double the amount that they believe they could land Agger for, with reports in Spain stating the Blues have slapped a 50million price tag on the Brazilian.

Agger signed a new contract last season but his agent, Per Steffensen said: ‘We are aware that Barcelona have made an offer for Daniel that Liverpool have rejected.

“Daniel has a contract with Liverpool for the next three years and it would be up to the clubs to agree a fee for his transfer in order for that to change.”

The 28-year-old, who joined Liverpool in 2006, was recently named vice-captain by the manager and Rodgers is confident the centre-back will be staying.

“Daniel has given me his word that he loves Liverpool and I will expect him to be here.”

Meanwhile, Barcelona chiefs will make a final make-or-break offer for the Chelsea Luiz?s this week after having an opening bid was turned down last week.
