Liverpool finalised a deal for Iago Aspas, who travelled to Merseyside to put pen-to-paper and become club’s third signing of the summer.

The Reds must wait for international clearance before the transfer is complete but he has worked his way through all the formalities and passed his medical at Melwood on Monday.

Aspas was rumoured to be a target of Swansea during the time that Rodgers was in charge of the Welsh outfit and the Northern Irishman has continued to monitor the progress of the front man during his first campaign at Anfield.

The uncapped Spaniard played a crucial role in the survival of Celta Vigo in La Liga last term, providing the assist on the final day of the season to pick up a 1-0 win over Espanyol and climb out of the drop zone.

The 25-year-old netted 12 goals in 35 games for Abel Resino’s side and he has been snapped up by the Premier League club for a fee of £7million.

Rodgers has moved quickly in the transfer window as he looks to continue the momentum from the closing stages of last season, Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has already agreed a free transfer and Sevilla forward Luis Alberto penned a contract on Sunday.
