Olivier Giroud believes his battle with Alexis Sanchez to be Arsenal’s top scorer will only help his side finish the campaign strongly.

Injury meant the Frenchman was somewhat overshadowed by the industrious Chilean in the opening half of the season but he is now back on song and the pair find themselves locked on 13 league goals apiece.

The Gunners are currently in a fine run of form, losing just three times in all competitions so far in 2015.

It means that after doubts that they would even finish in the top four places, Arsene Wenger’s men now sit third in the table and are 1.06 to once again qualify for the Champions League.

They are also the 1.80 favourites to successfully defend their FA Cup crown, meaning it looks set to be an exciting couple of months for the North Londoners.

Having a healthy rivalry between their two leading marksmen can only help Arsenal’s cause and their quality means they are sure to find the net on plenty more occasions before the end of the campaign.

Giroud admits he and Sanchez are enjoying their rivalry and hopes their personal duel can help inspire the Gunners in their quest for glory during the coming weeks.

“I’m not going to say something silly because it’ll be reported, but why not finish ahead of Alexis?” he told RMC.

“We push each other, we’re on 13 goals, and I would like to score some more to help the team achieve its objectives.”
