Aaron Ramsey is looking forward to the start of the new Premier League season with the Arsenal star hoping to put an early marker down at home to Liverpool in the opening game.

Arsenal once again missed out on the title in the previous campaign as they finished 10 points behind champions Leicester City, who shocked the footballing world by lifting the trophy.

However, the Gunners did guarantee Champions League action for another year and the expectation levels are high ahead of their opening at the Emirates on Sunday.

Ramsey will be hoping to play a big part against Liverpool although he only appeared in pre-season for the first time against Manchester City on Sunday.

The 25-year-old started the match in Gothenburg as Arsene Wenger’s men managed to record a confidence-boosting 3-2 victory over their English rivals.

He looked in decent shape and the momentum has clearly been taken from the impressive Euro 2016 campaign, where the midfielder helped Wales reach the semi-final stage.

Ramsey admits getting some minutes is a big boost as the season draws closer and he is confident his side can get the better of the Reds this weekend.

“It felt good to come in and play the last game before the start of the season,” he told Arsenal Player. “It’s good fitness for us and I felt good to get back out there again.

I feel ready to go for Liverpool.” Arsenal are the 2.25 favourites to pick up all three points, a draw is priced at 3.25 while the Jurgen Klopp’s men are 3.10 to get off to a winning start.

The hosts are expected to give a full debut to summer signing Granit Xhaka, who arrived from Borussia Monchengladbach for around £30-£35million.
