Angel di Maria believes Manchester United are only going to improve during the rest of the campaign, despite losing to Southampton on Sunday.

The Argentine was one of a host of new stars to arrive at Old Trafford in the summer but despite a bright start, has struggled with injury and failed to make an impact in the defeat against the Saints, after being handed his first start since November.

However, Sunday’s result was the first time the Red Devils had lost in 11 matches in all competitions and despite now being 12 points behind leaders Chelsea, with no European football to worry about, they can afford to focus all of their attentions on securing a top-four finish and possibly even a title push.

United are currently are currently 36.00 outsiders to win the Premier League, with the Blues the 1.42 favourites and second-placed Manchester City priced at 3.10.

With a number of players now returning to fitness though, Louis van Gaal has plenty of options to pick from and Di Maria believes there is still plenty to come from his new side.

“From the start of the season to now, you can see that we’ve grown,” he told MUTV. “We weren’t so great at the beginning but we’ve started getting a few victories under our belts.

“There are some people saying that we’re not playing in a particularly good style or that it’s not the old Manchester United – but it’s not.

“We’re beginning something new here. We’ve got a new style, we’ve got a new manager and we’re all working hard to make sure we’re putting Manchester United back where it belongs.”
