Hull are set to be without highly-rated full-back Andy Robertson for at least two months after he was ruled out of action with a calf injury.
The Tigers, who are 1.67 to be relegated, have been unlucky with injuries this season and Robertson’s absence comes as the latest in a long line of issues for new permanent boss Mike Phelan.
The 22-year-old was forced to limp off after 62 minutes of Saturday’s 6-1 hammering at Bournemouth. Robertson went for tests on Monday which have revealed the full extent of the injury he sustained to his calf.
The defender is now expected to miss Scotland’s 2018 World Cup qualifier with rivals England at Wembley on November 11.
Hull are set to be without Robertson for a key run of fixtures against the likes of Stoke, Watford, Southampton, Sunderland, West Brom, Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace over the next two months.
A Hull statement read: “Andy Robertson is likely to be sidelined for up to eight weeks with the injury sustained against Bournemouth at the weekend.
“The Scottish international damaged his calf during the second half of the defeat at the Vitality Stadium, with subsequent scans showing that the left-back is set for a spell on the sidelines.”
The former Dundee United man has grown into an influential figure at the KCOM Stadium since joining in 2014 and is hopeful the squad can push on without him.
He wrote on Instagram: “Looks like I’ll be a supporter for the next few weeks! Hopefully the lads can kick on and I’ll be back in no time.”
