Barcelona have suffered another injury blow after the Catalan giants confirmed defender Dani Alves is set for around 10 days out with a calf problem.

The Brazilian full-back has been ruled out of Barca’s La Liga clash against Granada this weekend and the following Champions League game with Ajax next week as a result of the setback.

He may also miss the match against Athletic Bilbao on December 1 as Gerado Martino’s side aim to continue their fine start to the season.

“Tests carried out on Thursday morning have confirmed that Dani Alves has a slight tear of the right leg soleus muscle. He’ll be out for between seven and 10 days,” read a statement on Barcelona‘s official website.

“In principle, Alves will miss the games against Granada and Ajax.”

The defender’s injury is the latest setback for Barca as he joins fellow first-team players Victor Valdes, Jordi Alba, Gerard Pique, Cesc Fabregas and Lionel Messi on the sidelines.

Valdes and Messi are not expected back until the New Year and Martino will have to make full use of his squad at the Nou Camp over the next couple of months.

Meanwhile, midfielder Xavi is also a slight doubt for Saturday’s game with Granada with a knock but he will be given as much time as possible to prove his fitness ahead of the clash.
