– Enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

– Find happiness in enjoying the journey, not by awaiting the destination.

– The journey is yours. Enjoy each and every step.

– Somewhere on your journey, don’t forget to turn around and enjoy the view.

– So often we become so focused on the finish line that we fail to enjoy the journey.

All these quotes pop up when you do a quick ‘enjoy the journey quotes’ Google search.

I enjoy them because they help me focus on the journey and not just the destination. If we focus just on the destination, we will miss all of the fun of the journey. We will miss the meaningful memories, the lessons and the small but impactful moments that make life special.

But to get to those moments, we have to take the first step and then we have to keep taking the next, right step.

“Those times when you get up early and you work hard, those times when you stay up late and you work hard, those times when you don’t feel like working, you’re too tired, you don’t want to push yourself, but you do it anyway. That is actually the dream. That’s the dream. It’s not the destination, it’s the journey. And if you guys can understand that, then what you’ll see happen is you won’t accomplish your dreams, your dreams won’t come true; something greater will,” Kobe Bryant in his 2017 retirement speech.

“There’s a choice that we have to make as people, as individuals. If you want to be great at something, there’s a choice you have to make. We all can be masters at our craft, but you have to make a choice. What I mean by that is, there are inherent sacrifices that come along with that. Family time, hanging out with friends, being a great friend, being a great son, nephew, whatever the case may be. There are sacrifices that come along with making that decision,” Kobe in an interview for the documentary “Kobe Bryant’s Muse” for Showtime, 2015.

Take that first step. Start today. And enjoy the journey. What is the point of achieving a goal if you don’t have fun? Every day, take a minute to stop and enjoy the journey. Don’t stop too long though – rest, recover, reflect and then get back to work!
