Anzhi Makhachkala attacking midfielder Willian has completed a medical with Tottenham ahead of a proposed £30million move as the club look to get a deal wrapped up.

Willian joined the Russian club in January for a fee reported to be £30million after attracting attention during his five-and-a-half year spell with Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk.

However, the big-spending Russian side have recently announced they will be allowing a number of high-earning players to leave the club in order to cut costs.

The 25-year-old Willian had also attracted interest from fellow Premier League side Liverpool who look to have been beaten to the deal.

The former Corinthians man is set to become Spurs’ fifth major summer signing following the arrivals of Paulinho, Nacer Chadli, Roberto Soldado and Etienne Capoue.

Spurs have already smashed their transfer record twice this summer having signed Paulinho for just under £17million before splashing out £26million on Soldado last week.

Boss Andre Villas-Boas has been keen to add extra quality to his squad after they failed to achieve Champions League football last term, narrowly missing out on fourth place by a solitary point to rivals Arsenal on the final day of the season.

The Portuguese is eager to avoid a repeat this time around but a lot could rely on whether he is able to hold on to star man Gareth Bale who has been the subject of strong interest from Real Madrid.
