Costa Rica wants replay of recent World Cup qualifying match against USA, claiming the weather restricted them to play.

Clint Dempsey scored the match’s only goal in the 16th minute to give the US a 1-0 victory in Colorado.

However, the Costa Rica Football Federation submitted an appeal to FIFA, the governing body, for a replay.

“What happened the night of Friday the 22nd … has no precedents, since it not only went against the sporting spectacle, but also against the physical integrity of the officials and players,” the statement read.

Costa Rica coach Jorge Luis Pinto called for the match to be abandoned but the United States manager Juergen Klinsmann insisted that it continue as both teams faced the same conditions.

With the loss, Costa Rica are at the bottom of the table, while the US are second.
