Brendan Rodgers says this season will not be Luiz Suarez’s last at Liverpool as he looks to bring the glory days back to Anfield.

The striker looked to be heading for the exit door in the summer but Rodgers and the Liverpool board refused to sell despite Arsenal and Real Madrid making attempts to sign him.

It is turning out to be a very shrewd decision as Suarez is back at the top of his game after returning from a 10-match suspension for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic and grabbed a hat-trick in Saturday’s 4-1 win over West Brom.

Suarez is forming a brilliant partnership with Daniel Sturridge that has been dubbed ‘SAS’ and has the Liverpool fans dreaming of a Premier League title challenge this season.

It is inevitable that speculation over the player’s future will continue to bubble under the surface but Rodgers remains adamant that he is not for sale and Anfield is the best place for him.

When asked if it was inevitable that Suarez would leave the club, Rodgers said: “No, I wouldn’t say that. I think he, like ourselves, wants to be at the very highest level he can be.

“And you can see by his performances he deserves to be looking at that level.

“But it also shows he has been excellent in his attitude, you see his work rate – that is the key.”

Suarez has bagged six goals in five games since making his return and if he can maintain that kind of form Liverpool will remain in the hunt for honours throughout the season.
