Anthony Martial is ‘loving’ his time as a Manchester United player after signing a new deal that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2024.

The 23-year-old, who joined United from Monaco in September 2015 for £36m, had fallen down the pecking order before Jose Mourinho departed the club but has now finally inked his contract extension.

Martial has scored eight goals in 18 league matches this season and appears to be relishing his time under interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He insists the club and its fans have made him feel welcome from the moment he arrived.

“I’m loving my time at this club,” Martial said. “From the day I joined I have been made to feel part of the United family and I have been incredibly humbled and overwhelmed by the warmth and love of our fans, who continue to amaze me with their support.”

Martial has started five times under Solskjaer and scored after coming on as a substitute in the FA Cup win at Arsenal last week, though he then missed the midweek 2-2 draw with Burnley.

That was the first game Solskjaer has failed to win since he was installed as temporary boss after Mourinho was sacked in December. The Norwegian has been impressed by Martial on and off the pitch since he returned to Old Trafford.

“For a young man, he has a good footballing brain, which, when coupled with his exceptional talent, makes for a player with an exciting future ahead of him,” he said of the French forward.
