Novak Djokovic has set his sights on returning to the top of the world rankings with a positive showing at the ATP World Tour Finals.

The Serbian spent 122 consecutive weeks as the world’s best player, but he relinquished his position at the top of the rankings to Andy Murray, after losing in the quarter-finals of last week’s Paris Masters.

The 12-time major winner is just 405 points behind Murray in the standings, and he can return to the summit with a victory at the Tour Finals, an event he has won in each of the last four years.

Djokovic admits returning to world number one is one of his main motivations heading into the event, as he prepares for group matches against Milos Raonic, Gael Monfils and Dominic Thiem.

“It’s one of the reasons why I’m here, to try to do as best as I can and eventually fight for the No 1 spot in the world,” said Djokovic.

The 29-year-old was also quick to pay tribute to Murray, who he believes fully deserves to be number one in the rankings.

He continued: “Andy has an incredible last three or four months, actually, last six months, starting from the clay court finals, very consistent. The most consistent player this year without a doubt. “He definitely deserves to be the No 1 player in the world.

But we’re coming to the final week of the year, we’re all trying to get what’s left in our bodies to the court and get as far as we can.”

Djokovic is available at 2.38 to emerge victorious in London and regain his number one ranking, while Murray is priced at 2.20 to continue his good form by winning the tournament.
