Andy Murray does not feel the arrival of his first child will distract him from his career on the tennis court.

The world number three and his wife Kim are expecting a baby, which is understood to be due in February.

The Scot, 28, says they are delighted and he does not have any concerns over the impending arrival will affecting his tennis.

“I’m more concerned about the baby being healthy,” said Murray, who is in Montreal for this week’s Rogers Cup.

“We’re both extremely happy and feel very lucky. It’s very exciting news, but it’s also private news.”

He added: “There’s stuff we want to keep close to our friends and family and I hope that everybody can respect that.”

Murray is in Canada to step up his hard-court preparation ahead of the season’s final Grand Slam, the US Open at Flushing Meadows which begins on August 31.

Having been beaten by world number 53 Teymuraz Gabashvili of Russia in the second round of the Washington Open last week, Murray says it takes some time readapting to hard courts.

Murray said: “Not so much with the tennis, but it’s a tough surface on the body after coming from clay and grass which are a little bit more forgiving.”

Murray is 5.00 to win his third slam at the US Open, three years on from his historic victory against Novak Djokovic in New York.

Wimbledon champion Djokovic is 2.20 while Roger Federer is 7.00 to land his first US Open crown in seven years at the age of 34.
