Novak Djokovic’s coach Boris Becker believes Andy Murray has made huge developments in his game and says the Scot is a massive threat to the current world number one.

Djokovic has been the main man to beat over the past two seasons and there have been few able to get the better of the Serbian, who has won 12 Grand Slam titles now.

The 29-year-old triumphed at the Australian and French Open this year and many though there was a chance he could win all of the ‘big four’ tournaments in the same calendar year.

However, he suffered a shock exit at Wimbledon and this was followed by a first-round defeat to Argentine Juan Martin del Potro at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

Djokovic has now revealed a wrist injury could hamper his chances of winning the US Open, which got underway on Monday, but Becker has highlighted one big threat.

Murray is in sensational form going into the competition, having won a second Wimbledon title, successfully defended his Olympic title and finished runner-up at the Cincinnati Masters.

The Scottish star, who is 2.88 to lift the trophy at Flushing Meadows, has improved massively as a player and, according to Becker, is closing the gap to Djokovic.

“I see him really challenging Djokovic’s supremacy in the next few grand slams,” the German told gulfnews.com. “What I think has changed for Murray is that a maturity and stability has come into his life.”

Murray takes on Lukas Rosol in round one on Tuesday and the 29-year-old is 1.01 favourite to pick up the win whilst his Czech opponent is the 12.00 outsider.

Djokovic goes head-to-head with Jerzy Janowicz and the Serb is 1.01 to record victory while the Pole is a 12.00 chance.
