Andy Murray says he was suffering from illness during his run to the semi-finals of the French Open at Roland Garros.
The world number three was edged out in five sets by top-ranked Novak Djokovic in Paris, but he has now revealed he was not 100 per cent healthy during the tournament, saying he needed three days of complete rest afterwards to get back on track.
“They were three full days off any training or anything. I needed to rest and recover. I was actually sick for about a week, really, so I needed to recover from that,” said Murray.
“I don’t know whether I was just run down or tired, but it had been a long few weeks – but I feel fine now.”
Murray is ready to begin the grass court season at Queen’s this week before attempting to secure his second Wimbledon crown in July.
Coach Amelie Mauresmo will not be joining Murray at Queen’s for the Aegeon Championships, but she will be in his corner at Wimbledon and he expects her to play a vital role now that she has become accustomed to his team.
“It’s good, I like having her around the tournaments. It’s been for me a very good start to the year,” he said.
Jonas Bjorkman has also joined Murray’s backroom team this year, but the Scot says Mauresmo will be taking the lead role at Wimbledon.
He added: “I’d imagine during Wimbledon that Amelie can take the lead and Jonas can see how we operate a bit more as a team.
“We know each other a lot better than we did this time last year, so she should be able to help a lot more this year.”
Murray is 4.00 to win Wimbledon, with world number one Djokovic priced at 2.20.
