Newly crowned world number one Andy Murray is hoping to end his season on a high despite being handed a tough draw at the ATP World Tour Finals.
The Brit was officially confirmed as the 26th player to reach the top of the rankings on Monday, following his run to the final of the Paris Masters, an event he ultimately won by beating John Isner on Sunday.
The 29-year-old’s first tournament since reaching number one will be at the ATP World Tour Final in London next week, an event where he has struggled to find top form in the past, losing in the group stage in each of the last two years.
Murray will face another tough test if he is to make it through to the semi-finals this year, as he will come up against three-time major winner Stan Wawrinka, as well as Kei Nishikori and Marin Cilic in the John McEnroe Group.
The reigning Wimbledon champion knows he will have to be on top form if he is to improve on his record at the Finals, but he is hopeful of ending the season on a positive note.
He said: “The last few years I haven’t played so well there. One year, I played really well and missed out by, I don’t even know what it was in the end, but by a game.
“One of the years, I played one of the best matches of the year against Rafa [Nadal] in the semi-finals… I just want to play my best and finish the year on a good note in that respect.”
The other side of the draw will see Novak Djokovic, who Murray replaced as world number one, Milos Raonic, Gael Monfils and Dominic Thiem come up against each other in the Ivan Lendl Group.
