Wigan Warriors have been handed a massive boost ahead of the crucial clash with Huddersfield Giants, after Sam Tomkins was passed fit to play.

The Warriors full-back had to sit out last week’s narrow win over Hull KR after picking up a virus but coach Shaun Wane says he is now over the illness.

Wigan do not have a good record when Tomkins is not in the side, so it will be a relief to Wane to have him back for the top-of-the-table clash.

Elsewhere, skipper Sean O’Loughlin and prop Ben Flower are hoping to have recovered from knocks to play, and Wane says he will leave it late before naming his side.

“Sam is good. He had a bit of food poisoning, a 24-hour bug. It was just bad timing,” he said. “We have got a few little knocks and bruises that we’ll need to check on.

“It’ll be late on that I select my team – which is quite common. It is just that stage of the season – 20-odd rounds when you get week-in, week-out knocks.”

Wigan are just one point behind leaders Huddersfield and can go back top of Super League if they can get the win as the battle for the League Leaders’ Shield hots up.
