Ospreys have boosted their injury-hit squad after completing the signing of scrum-half Phil Mack on a short-term deal.

Following injuries to Rhys Webb and Tom Habberfield, Tito Tebaldi is the Welsh outfit’s only fit scrum half, so Canada international Mack has been drafted in to provide cover.

Young winger Tom Grabham had been acting as back up to Tebaldi when taking a place on the bench, but the arrival of Mack means they now have another experienced number nine to turn to.

“We are pleased to have been able to secure Phil’s services and he will provide us with some much needed cover in a crucial position over the coming weeks,” Rugby operations manager Andy Lloyd said.

“With Rhys already sidelined, Tom’s untimely pre-season injury has left us light at scrum-half, having only a winger or untried youngsters as cover.

“With that in mind we felt it was crucial that we acted swiftly, and in Phil we have someone who has impressed at international level and who we believe can come in at short notice and do a good job for the region.

“We are also grateful to the WRU for their understanding of the situation.”

Webb has been ruled out until the New Year after suffering a serious knee injury, while things got even worse when Habberfield picked up an ankle problem last month that will keep him out for at least another four weeks.
