Usain Bolt insists he is back to full fitness after missing the Jamaican Olympic trials due to a hamstring strain.

The six-time Olympic champion is set to return to competitive action at this weekend’s Anniversary Games in London, where he will compete in the 200 metres for the first time this season.

He said: “I’m feeling good, been training good now, I’m happy with where I am.

My hamstring is good, I have no issue right now. I know I’m in good shape.”

The 29-year-old revealed that he could have sustained serious damage to his hamstring had he competed in the trials and he believes he made the right decision by sitting out the event.

“When I got to the doctor he said if I had competed [in the trials] I would probably would have torn my hamstring really badly,” he continued. “I made the right decision. My coach always makes sure I put my health first.

But I was never really worried because my coach always figures out a way to adjust the programme. I was in pretty good shape before I had to pull out, so I wasn’t really worried.”

Bolt confirmed this weekend’s competition will be his last before next month’s Olympics, where he will be bidding to claim an unprecedented ‘triple triple’ of gold medals, following his three triumphs at the London Games four years ago, and in Beijing in 2008.

He added: “I’ll definitely be there, I’m excited to go. This is where history is going to be made, I’m excited to put on a show for the entire world to see. This is my final Olympics, it’s a big one.”
