Barcelona have confirmed they will sign Portugal international Andre Gomes from Valencia for a reported fee of £41.7million.
The 22-year-old, who was part of the Portugal’s triumphant Euro 2016 squad, had been linked with a switch to the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea, but it is the Blaugrana that appear to have won the race for his signature.
The Catalan giants confirmed the news of Gomes’ imminent arrival on their official Twitter account, while also revealing that the attacking midfielder will sign on the dotted line next week.
“Agreement with Valencia for Andre Gomes. The player will both sign and be presented as a new Barcelona player next week,” Barca tweeted.
Gomes only joined Valencia on a permanent deal from Benfica last summer, having spent the 2014-15 campaign on-loan at the Mestalla, but he went on to score three goals in 30 La Liga appearances last season, as Los Che finished 12th in the final standings.
The youngster will become Barca’s fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Denis Suarez from Villarreal and French duo Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne from Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.
Luis Enrique’s side were crowned La Liga champions last season and they are priced at 1.70 to successfully defend their title next season, while Champions League winners Real Madrid are on offer at 2.40.
