Before July ends, another huge event is happening as Ultimate Fighting Championship comes to Atlanta for UFC 201.
In the main event, two of the most fearsome sluggers will lock horn for Welterweight Championship.
Tyron Woodley makes his comeback and squares off against the champion Robbie Lawler in his 3rd title defense.
UFC 201 is set on Saturday evening July 30, 2016 which also features co-main event bout between the undefeated Karolina “Kontender” Kowalkiewicz and the crowd favorite Rose Nmajunas in the strawweight title eliminator match.
In the bantamweight, it’s going to be a war between the sluggers Francisco Rivera and Erik Perez. Everyone loves exciting fights.
So, let’s get direct to the point and have a closer look on matchup stats of each in every fighter Lawler and Woodley.
Although, it appeared that Lawler’s Championship was pretty easy, his narrow loss to Hendricks only proved he’s not going to exit without tasting defeat.
Still, the welterweight champion reclaimed the belt after the close fight split decision victory last December 2014.
Lawler’s most memorable fight was the all-time classic title defense against Rory MacDonald in which he scored a knockout in the 5th and final round.
The 170-pound fighter’s recent victory was against Carlos Condit via split decision.
On the other hand, Woodley is likely one of the best athlete in the welterweight class and is absolutely a dangerous fighter. However, in spite the skills showed in the previous fights, many think it would be an easy fight for Lawler.
Although, he possesses strong attacks, blinding speed and crushing power he relies most of his offense on his right hand and kick to damage the opponent of which, of course is easy for Lawler to counter.
When it comes to wrestling skills, it’s no doubt Woodley has the advantage. The problem is that, Lawler never finds difficulty in stuffing the takedowns as shown in his previous fights with Koscheck and Hendricks.
Possibly, Woodley might use the clinch to wind on the top of the champion and hope to find an entry for submission.
Lawler is favored in this match. However as you see how crazy the MMA world has been for the last 12 months. It’s really hard to predict and feel good about the sure thing that will happen.
Anything might come into place. Bisping over Rockhold, Nunes over Tate and Holm over Rousey – those are just reminders that even the most confident picks can slip off.
