Track star Usain Bolt insists he will be at the top of his game physically when the 2016 Olympics come round after returning to the track at the Anniversary Games.

The 29-year-old was forced to withdraw from the Jamaican trials earlier this month after complaining of a hamstring issue.

However, he made his return to the track this week as he looks to prove his fitness ahead of the trip to Rio in August.

The six-time Olympic champion ran a time of 19.89 seconds to win the 200 metres event at London’s Olympic Stadium on Friday, finishing 0.15 seconds ahead of Panama’s Alonso Edward in second.

Adam Gemili, who won silver for Britain at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, came home in third with a season’s best of 20.07 seconds.

Bolt has shrugged off any major concerns ahead of the showpiece event next month and although he admitted it wasn’t a perfect run on Friday he believes he can still taste glory in south America.

The sprinter insists he still has plenty of work to do but is delighted to have stayed injury free following his outing in the nation’s capital.

Bolt said: “I need more work, but over time I will get there. I thought the cornering wasn’t perfect.

But I am feeling good. “At least I came here, ran the race and had no injuries. I am ready to defend my Olympic titles. The main thing is I am injury free.

I always love competing here. It’s always a great fun at this stadium.”
